On Friday, March 9, 2018, at 7:15 pm, firefighters from the Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District responded to the report that a vehicle had gone over the side of the road near Suerte Del Este and Canyon De Oro in the community of Elfin Forest. Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters located a pickup truck about 200 feet down in a ravine. They immediately began making their way down to the vehicle and found three occupants, two with minor injuries and one with critical injuries. The patients were extricated from the vehicle brought back up to the road. A fourth occupant with minor injuries was located further up the road where he had been able to call for help. The patient with critical injuries was transported to Palomar Medical Center while the patients with minor injuries were transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.
