Oceanside’s firefighters would pay a portion of their employee pensions for the first time under a tentative contract agreement between the city and its fire union, but the deal doesn’t come without a cost on the city’s end.
Firefighters have agreed to pay 4 percent of the 9-percent employee retirement contribution. CalPERS, the state’s retirement system sets the percentage that employees contribute. The city had borne the cost of the employee contribution.
