Fire Apparatus

Firefighting apparatus is designed to carry all the equipment needed for a rapid response to any type of emergency. Here is the Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District's collection of emergency response apparatus.

The Fire District has four frontline Type-I pumpers, or fire engines; one is housed at each of the four fire stations.

Fast facts:

  • Tank holds 500 gallons of water.
  • Pumps 1500 gallons of water per minute.
  • Carries 2,600 feet of firefighting hose.
  • Contains Class A and B Compressed Air Foam Systems.
  • Stores medical supplies and equipment, rescue tools, overhaul tools, breathing apparatus, thermal imaging camera, hose nozzles, multiple ladders, wildland firefighting hose packs and brush gear.

The Fire District has three frontline Type-III brush engines housed at three of the four fire stations.

  • Carries 2,600 feet of firefighting hose.
  • Contains a Class A Compressed Air Foam System.
  • Stores medical supplies, wildland firefighting tools and equipment.
  • Off-road capable.
  • Seats up to four firefighters.

Water TenderWater Tender | Top
The Fire District has one frontline water tender. The water tender is housed at Station 1 in Rancho Santa Fe but is utilized throughout the District as needed.

Fast facts:

  • Tank holds 2,100 gallons of water.
  • Pumps 500 gallons per minute
  • Carries its own portable water tank to off load water at a remote location.
  • Can unload its entire 2,100-gallon water capacity in less than one minute.
  • Stores fire hose, firefighting tools and equipment.
  • Off-road capable.
  • Equipped with one portable water tank and portable pump.

Command VehiclesCommand Vehicles | Top
The Fire District has four Command vehicles. One Command vehicle is assigned to each Chief Officer.

What's Inside:

  • Multiple radios.
  • Command modules (desk with mapping displays) and reference materials.
  • Turn-outs and other safety gear.

Reserve Fleet | Top
The reserve fleet is used when frontline rigs are out of service or when additional staffing is needed during emergencies and high fire hazard periods. The District's reserve apparatus includes two Type-I pumpers.
