Sheltering-in-Place During Wildfires
Do you own a Shelter-in-Place home?
If
you live in The Bridges, The Crosby, CIELO, 4S Ranch or Santa Fe Valley,
your home is considered SHELTER-IN-PLACE.
Shelter-in-place (SIP) means you can safely shelter in your home during
a wildfire if you cannot safely evacuate on dangerous roads.
Contents of our SIP program include:
- What is shelter-in-place?
- Defining the term
- Our local shelter in place communities
- Designing a shelter-in-place Communies
- Fire-resistive homes
- Fire-resistive landscaping
- Specific home features
- Specific community features

- When Wildfire Approaches
- Preparing your home
- Preparing your family
- Emergency actions
- Maintaining your shelter-in-place community
- Maintaining your fire-resistive home
- Maintaining your fire-resistive landscape
- Community maintenance
Although the SIP concept is new to the United States, Australia
has used the concept for years. Recently, our SIP communities passed the test of the Witch Creek Fire. Although the fire burned in and around these communities, not a single SIP shetler was lost. To learn more about sheltering in
