Grade Lesson Plans (pdf)
Fire Wise
Fire Ready!
Fire Wise, Fire Ready stresses the importance of wildfire preparedness
in the community. Students learn the factors which make up the "wildfire
environment" and discuss different ways wildfire can be prevented;
firefighters focus their discussion on the dangers of using matches,
lighters, fireworks and explosives. Students will learn how families
should prepare for evacuation in advance, and will then discuss
the items they would like to take if an evacuation was ordered.
At the end of the lesson, students will have the opportunity to
see the tools and protective clothing a firefighter uses to combat
a wildfire, noticing the differences between structure firefighting
gear and wildland firefighting gear.
Fourth Grade Fire Prevention Week Coloring Contest
Immediately following Fire Prevention Week, fourth grade students
have the opportunity to participate in the Fire
District's Fire Prevention Coloring Contest. One winning entry
is then selected from each participating school. The winning students
will receive a pizza party for their class (at their school)
with the Rancho Santa Fe Firefighters! Every fourth grader who enters
the contest will receive a certificate signed by the Fire Chief,
recognizing their contribution to promoting a fire-safe community.
