Grade Lesson Plans (pdf)
Smoke Alarms Save Lives
This lesson explains the role smoke alarms play in alerting people
to fire situations. Students participate in a quiz session to test
their knowledge of smoke alarms and smoke alarm maintenance.
Home Fire Escape Plans
This lesson discusses the techniques used to escape from a home
fire. Students will learn how to design their own escape plan; then
students will put the concept to practice by participating in our
"fire escape obstacle course." With the help of firefighters,
students will start on a "bed" and wake to the sound of
the smoke alarm. From there, the student will crawl low through
the "smoke tunnel" to the "bedroom door." Feeling
the door with the back of their hand and finding the door "hot,"
students will then climb out the "bedroom window" towards
safety, finishing up at the "family meeting place."
